9/18/09MNN BLOCK PARTY PHOTOS
My friend Ravage and I were invited to paint live @ the MNN Block Party last year or the year before that (?). I came across these photos just yesterday. It was a true NYC El Barrio style block party and I enjoyed it very much. We had about 5 hours all together but we got it together and finished on time. We also had high school studens who have never painted before help with the painting. They did an awesome job.

I can chalk it up to marriage, child-birth, old-age, or the economy... But the bottomline is my career came to a hault a few years ago and it's been on the decline. It is so funny how what seemed to be booming, on the rise only a few years ago is completely gone.
Today, I have no energy, I work on projects that I hate, and have not worked on anything for myself in years. I am at a point where I no longer enjoy my work. And, I have no one else to blame but myself for being in this mess. What am I going to do about it? That is the question. 5/31/095/28/095/24/095/21/09CUSTOM TWITTER BACKGROUNDS4/30/09NICE MENTION ON A BLOG![]() Nice mention on this blog: http://bjanepr.wordpress.com/2009/04/28/work-barrio-fiesta-and-remixing-culture-course/
Thank you. 4/20/09CAPTURED: A FILM VIDEO HISTORY OF THE LOWER EAST SIDEOne of my friends pointed out that our names are credited in this book. A project that we worked on in 2003. Thanks Nicole for bringing that to my attention. Book: Captured: A Film/video History Of The Lower East Side New York's Lower East Side has been a fountain of creativity and art since the early 1950s, a free-wheeling bazaar of ideas and artists that has challenged and shaped mainstream culture. "Captured" tells the story of film and video in the Lower East Side and the East Village in the artists' own words. Over 100 contributors discuss the early years with Allen Ginsburg, Andy Warhol, Jack Smith, Taylor Mead and Jonas Mekas, as well as the wild 1970s and 1980s with Jim Jarmusch, Steve Buscemi, Luis Guzman, Nick Zedd and many others. Movements such as No Wave and the Cinema of Transgression are covered, as is the story of "Pull My Daisy," considered among the true progenitors of "indie film." "Captured" is part formal history and part inspirational text, reminding people on the outside looking in how often their contributions form the invisible pillars of American art and popular life long after they themselves are forgotten. To quote the great pop art filmmaker Jack Smith, "Art school? Art school? I didn't have the luxury of going to art school. I had to come to New York and go straight to work making art." This book is a must-have for fans of independent film and students of cinema everywhere. YOU CAN PURCHASE IT FROM AMAZON:
4/19/09ONE LOVE TATTOO ON LIZZYA friend, Lizzy, asked me to write "One Love" in Japanese for her so she can get it tattooed. So I used a font that I really like and created the design for her. Here's the final result. Not sure where she got it done but it looks pretty nice. in another language... Make sure you ask a native speaker if it is correct! I've seen too many literal translations that don't quite make sense!

4/15/09CULTURAL SURREALIST vs. URBAN POP ARTIST
Many have asked me why I've changed my artist description to Urban Pop Artist from Cultural Surrealist. It is because I wanted to be true to what I really produce. I work on many creative projects to make ends meet... I felt that Urban Pop Art encompassed all that I do. I think that this label gives me more freedom for experimentation as well.
4/11/09BLEACHED T-SHIRT TUTORIAL![]() I love the way bleached t-shirts look. I've made a few on my own and it actually turns out pretty good... If you are interested in doing some yourself, check out this link: http://overspraymag.com/blog/?p=490. Where this one artist talks about how he perfected the art of bleaching T-shirts and his tutorial is awesome.
